Narrow-gauge railways with a track width of 750 mm in Żuławy have been established since 1891. The railway even once connected Gdańsk with Malbork (a narrow-gauge express train operated here).
In 1974, the so-called Left-bank railway, and in 1996 all train traffic on the lines of the Żuławy narrow gauge railway was stopped. Locomotives and wagons were cut into scrap metal or taken to other railways. Not a single vehicle remained here, there was no turntable in front of the locomotive depot, and the workshop and station were abandoned and devastated.

Thanks to the cooperation of the Marshal's Office of the Pomeranian Voivodship, the Eldership of the Nowodworski Poviat, the Sztutowo Commune, the Stegna Commune, the Nowy Dwór Gdański Commune and the Pomeranian Society of Railway Lovers, it was possible to download and start vehicles, complete the infrastructure and resume passenger trains. Since 2003, the trains of the Żuławy Commuter Railway run daily during the summer school holidays and
on selected weekends throughout the year. Today, there are more than a century-old railway lines on the right bank of the Vistula River - Jantar - Stegna - Sztutowo and Stegna - Nowy Dwór Gdański and a fragment of the line connecting Nowy Dwór Gdański with the suburban cemetery. They have a total of about 36 km of track. The real pearl is the only active narrow-gauge swing bridge in the world in Rybin, which is still rotated according to the art of 1906. Currently, the Żuławy Commuter Rail is the main tourist attraction of the Żuławy and Vistula Spit regions. It transports over 70,000 passengers during around 90 days a year.
